Ever wonder who Heidemarie is?

Heidemarie Vos is a highly successful author from South Africa. She first contacted me back when I was co-authoring Marty's Greenfield Park blog and she was promoting her latest book "Passion of a Foodie". Heidemarie continues to submit jokes and stories for the blog and for the life of me I don't know where she finds the time to do all the promotions and shows plus send me little ditties to post.

Here is an excerpt from the 2009 South African Chili Festival introducing Heidemarie .....

One hot mama cooks up a storm in a G-Cup! Flamboyant foodie and former Playboy Bunny, Heidemarie Vos has been there and done that. Many know her as the Eastern Cape’s Chili Mama, the founder of the Algoa Bay Chili Festival and writer of several cook books, including a chili cookbook, Chili South Africa. Passionate about people as well as food, she is also co-founder of the first House of Resurrection Aids Haven in Port Elizabeth. Be tempted by an abundance of wicked sizzling and searing deliciousities. There will be chili plants and chili trinkets but the emphasis is on food and plenty of hot food. Bring your party shoes and work up an appetite at Friday evening's dance.

Heidi was born in the small town of Dučhove, now in Czech Republic, in 1943. After her parents’ death in 1945 and amid all the confusion of war’s end she was unwittingly left abandoned in a refugee camp. She was finally found and rescued from the camp by a relative, but the area had already become East Germany. She was smuggled into West Germany under furniture on a freight train in 1946 and then grew up in rural Bavaria. She attended basic 8 years schooling, and later was sent to get a convent Home Economic education until she immigrated at 14 to the USA. She continued with that focus at Parsippany High School, New Jersey, where she graduated in 1962.
