Harper Regime condones sweatshops in Canada

Yesterday I posted my thoughts on Jason Kenney's and Diane Finley's policies on "Temporary Immigrants" and its affect on the immigrants and Canadians.

In response I received the following support information ....

Hi Bob ........ On today`s April 9th Blog, the article titled : ``Temporary Chinese Workers to Pay 12,500 Dollars (Cad) for Jobs`` prompted me to send in the following - In our London, Ontario neighbourhood we have a shopping Mall that at one time had been a A & P Supermarket. It eventually became a Metro store and now it`s about to open as King Supermarket. Another sister market in London named `Food Island` is already opened.
If you want to read something interesting & pathetic then I suggest you GOOGLE: Food Island Supermarket, London, On.
Click on the second article down starting with ``Stabbing thrusts``:
Bottom line, there are plenty of Canadians wanting jobs even at minimum wage, (especially in the existing job market) and yet our government is allowing crap like this to happen!! Aren`t there any good guys who play by the rules anymore.
Later - Win

Thanks Win... I am not surprised

It sticks out like a sore thumb — more than a dozen people packed into a house built for a single family in a quiet London suburb.

Next door, there’s another just like it.

But the portrait that’s slowly emerging behind the two London houses — of Chinese workers brought to Canada to work in Asian supermarkets, living in cramped conditions — is being painted in several London neighbourhoods.

While this story occurred in London Ontario it is not limited to that city but is systemic throughout the country as a result of the Conservative immigration policies.

See more on the subject of temporary immigrants and how it allows sweatshops to exist in Canada.....

The Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) is designed to help Canadian employers fill vacant positions “when Canadian citizens and permanent residents are not available to do the job.” But it appears the system is being abused. The Toronto Star reports that iGate received government clearance to hire temporary foreign workers, raising questions about how RBC ended up hiring the agency to fill those outsourced positions.

An immigration report dating back to 2011 claims the TFWP is tilted to provide access to an inexpensive, disposable foreign workforce without concern for the workers. The United Food and Commercial Workers Union’s (UFCW) "Report on the Status of Migrant Workers in Canada" claims the Temporary Foreign Workers Program took the management of immigration out of the hands of the government and gave it to businesses.

“Employers wield their control over workers unfettered by effective governmental oversight or the mediating power of a union,” the report reads. “When one of the few rules that do exist relating to migrant workers is violated by the employer, it is the migrant worker and not the employer who typically pays the price.”

Jason Kenney made an issue out of the freighter load of immigrants from Sri Lanka and how they had circumvented Canadian regulations. They have incarcerated these people in a ghetto compound somewhere in BC and are treating them as criminals, yet they are allowing corporate criminals to bring in slaves and house them in slum conditions.

Our government is supporting the human rights abuses of those immigrants from countries less fortunate than Canada. I thought that we had previous governments that were corrupt but none ever condoned the abuses that the Harper Regime is allowing with their "Temporary Immigration" bill.

I have said it before and I will continue to say it .... Stephen Harper and his ministers are incompetent. They do not consider the cause and effect of their actions. If this immigration fiasco had been the result of "the previous government" as they like to say there would be a bill in the house to stop it from occurring.

There is no bill nor is there any call for one..... why not?

  1. This situation has moved farther and faster than most Canadians will have anticipated. The cheerleading for the current government's "race to the bottom" policy initiatives is about to turn into a resounding thud.
Not even Harper's most ardent critics can say "we told you so"
These are sad days indeed. EB
