It seems the NY times has a better perspective on the Canadian Scene than many of our own neighbours:
Thanks John McC.... its good to see that others, like yourself, Ivan and Ed feel as I do. It gets pretty lonely speaking out alone..... what amazes me is how successful the negativity of the conservatives has been and how so many people I thought had minds of their own are truly brainwashed by the viciousness and bigotry spewed by this government.
.In my opinion it is not a question of Conservative, Liberal, NDP or Green but rather the Reformist attitudes and Tea Party views of Stephen Harper and his disciples of hate and destruction.
Medicare is an essential component in the growth and prosperity of the Canadian people. Without a National plan many Canadians would wallow in poverty and despair as they do in the great USA. A friend, retired and living in Conyers Georgia, told me a few weeks ago that prior to Obamacare he paid 750 dollars per month for his wife's, who is not yet a senior, medical insurance while after Obamacare came in his monthly premium decreased to 313 dollars, a hell of a saving for a retired spouse.
IE is another essentil and in the past kept many a family afloat when the economy dipped but under Stephen Harper only 37% of those who become unemployed qualify. To make matters worse few TFW's qualify at all even though they are required to pay premiums.
The EI fund has become a source of revenue that does not go into the general fund but is used by Harper to pay down his deficit.
