Épouse d'un vétéran avec SSPT
Don't give up while I stay strong
When it comes to PTSD, everything is a question of hard work and time. It's a process, an evolution, and acceptance in one the key issue to recovery.
I know veterans with PTSD who consider themselves in a positive healing process, as much as possible. They have learned to cope with their inner demons. Are they all gone? Of course not. But they developed a certain sense of peace regarding what happened to them, they learned to make sense out of the ugliness they saw and they make life choices in order to respect the new foundations they are building: their quality of life.
Some are business owners, some are full-time employees, some are «full-time» volunteers while others live what seems to be an isolated but satisfying life....other are fulfilling a mission, a purpose..
These guys I personally know are truly inspiring to me. In my point of view, they all have something in common: they stopped fighting the PTSD and learned how to work «with it» and «on it» instead. And for this to happen, they learned to accept PTSD in their life for what it means: a wound that left scares.
