A precursor of what Harper wants in Canada. Next year the 10 year health accord signed by Paul Martin with the provinces will expire. This is Harper's opportunity to kill universal health care in Canada. It won't be obvious at the outset but by not helping the provinces with health care the whole system will deteriorate.
You must remember that Harper is extreme right wing who doesn't believe in any social programs. There is ample evidence of this everywhere in his policies.
Harper was president of the National Citizens Coalition whose main goal is to get rid of universal health care and in his position as dictator, as our so called democratic system allows, he will do just that. Screw the poor and the underprivileged. Bring on the American profit centred health maintenance organizations, the infamous HMOs. ...
Just so you know the United States spends over 16% of their GDP on health care, Canada just over 9%. In Canada everyone is covered. In the United States over 49 million people have no health care and those that do often have to fight the HMOs to get their coverage honoured.
BTW universal health care paid by the government DOES exit in the US, however, it is only available to Congressmen and Senators.
What has happened to Canada is the result of apathy and glaring holes in our democracy and now we have a right wing psychopath running the country.

One need only watch the ads on TV to see that insurance companies have increased their advertisements for supplemental health insurance as confirmation of the validity of this comment.
