I may not be Einstein

Growing up I had little interest in school, I assume in today's society I would be diagnosed as suffering from Attention Deficit Disorder and they probably would be correct.

School to me was a social club where I met friends, played pranks on teachers and tossed eraser pieces down the front of the girls uniforms. Despite my lack of interest in the education system of my day and the fact that I dropped out of high school in grade 8 I did manage to obtain a post secondary education degree.

After a few years of working at various companies as general labour I applied to M.I.T. and was accepted. Yes my friends, that prestigious house of higher learning, the Montreal Institute of Technology a trade school in the east end of Montreal Quebec one of the Worlds greatest cities.

Of course I lied on the application and presented an incorrect letter of confirmation from one of my former principals that said I had graduated from high school. It happened to be the same principal that applauded me on my descriptive composition on "How To Play Hooky."

My days at the trade school served me well. it was nothing like what bored me in high school, no geography, no English and no algebra. I studied, what in its day was known as drafting, we covered mechanical, electrical as well as building design both in theory and practical.

My career after graduation took many twists and turns I spent 6 years working as an engineering technologist in  a major telecommunications manufacturer before moving into the construction field and eventual opened my own company where I spent the past  15 years consulting on historic restoration as well as modern day construction methodology and design.

My point to this long winded explanation is that even I know what a "right wing think tank" is and I would never compromise my integrity or that of the company I worked for simply to subvert the thinking of others as happened in the following....

Is Hong Kong the freest economy in the world? Does leaving your lights on when you go to work grow the economy?

And might it be the case that women participating in the workforce causes them to binge drink and chain smoke themselves into early graves?

The right-wing Fraser Institute marked its 40th birthday in 2014 by producing some of its silliest ideas yet. As we eagerly wait to see what the think tank has in store for us in 2015, here's a count down of 14 notables moments from 2014.

1. Now ordinary Canadians can skew Fraser Institute's data from home

In October, we pointed out that anyone on the Internet could fill out a Fraser Institute survey of global mining executives. They shut down the survey once we pointed out the methodological problem.

Sorry, Fraser Institute.

2. Guess where Tim Hudak got his math from?

HINT: It's someone who authored a right-to-work paper at a certain right-wing institute that starts with the letter F and ends with the letter R...
