Civil servants told to delete email, Aug. 27
If Stephen Harper wants to delete all government emails with “no business value,” then everything will be going in the garbage.
Our government is not a business. It is our shared social service. We put it there to regulate businesses, not pretend to be one. No government communication has any business value.
When you try to phone a government department, you will be told to await a “customer service representative.” That is offensively wrong. We are not customers of our government. We are its owners. For we are citizens.
From Mr. Harper on down, our civil servants are simply our employees. They act to our requirements. But as our government. Not a business.
