Please sign and share the petition below to help stop the deportation of human rights activist and 16 year resident of Langley BC, Jose Figueroa! The Harper government, have decided to deport Jose, a human rights activist who spoke out peacefully against a violent government regime in El Salvador over 20 years ago while a leader of his student union in University. The government at the time was found responsible for killing over 75,000 civilians.
Please sign and share this petition to stop Jose's deportation and keep him in Canada, where he belongs with his three children and wife. Jose's case is not isolated, he has been targeted by a ridiculous terrorism law that targets opposition members. Also in addition to signing the petition please, email, tweet etc and tell Harper, Vic Toews, and Jason Kenney that standing up for human rights does not make you a terrorist!!
More info:
... Jose Figueroa was a student leader in El Salvador in the 1980's and spoke out peacefully against the military dictatorship which ruled El Salvador at the time - a regime responsible for the deaths of between 70,000 and 80,000 people. Despite living peacefully in Canada for almost 16 years, this husband and father of three, faces deportation from Canada because of his advocacy for the FMLN, the broad opposition movement in El Salvador which opposed a government that stole elections, committed widespread torture and murder and used death squads to silence any opposition. Despite being a non-combatant in the conflict (a fact admitted by the Canadian government) Canada now wants to do deport him arguing wrongly that the fmln is a "terrorist" group. The FMLN is now the elected government in El Salvador and is recognized as a legitimate government by the entire world - including Canada! The more people who sign the petition the more chance we have of ensuring that this deportation order is reversed! Petition:
