I find simple minded patriotism renders
people paralyzingly compliant.
"they hate us because of our freedoms" doesn't acknowledge decades of imperialism and exploitation.
Our history didn't begin with the bombing of New York nor with the election of Steven Harper.
Cheers, EB
Thanks Ed....
I beg to differ that years of imperialism is the sole cause of discontent and anger against those descendants of the British Empire. Much, if not all of this anger, is derived from our religious beliefs and the desire of the multitude of Christian faiths to impose their beliefs on non- Christians..... Imperialism is based on Christian values
My own ancestors are guilty of this imposition. The enclosed paper sent to students and parents in May of 1919 from the Point aux Tremble Missionary School confirms much of our Christian attitude and desire to convert, regardless of religious sect, to our beliefs.
In the right hand column it can be found what the evangelical beliefs of my family was, at that time, however this belief is not limited to one Christian religion. It is systemic amongst all Christians who look upon those not of our faith as being in need of enlightenment.
Read where it begins ..... The Pointe aux Trembles Schools are evangelical......
The historian who wrote the history of my ancestors was unaware of the attitude of the "Protestants of Quebec" until I sent him this copy of the address to parents.
Until Christians, Muslims and Hebrews agree that their religion is derived from the same basic beliefs and the only difference is interpretation we will not be at peace with one another.
A thoughtful and thought provoking post Bob
