I feel it is important for you, the reader, to understand the relationship between Herbert and myself. Herbie was the only male influence on my mothers side, he is 10 years my senior and, as a boy, I greatly admired him.
When I was 5 or 6 and Herbie was 15 or 16 we both contracted Scarlett Fever, we were confined to the back bedroom of 844 Egan Avenue in Verdun, his foster parents and my grandparents home. While Herbie was being fostered I only knew him as my uncle, the subject of his being in foster care never came up ..... he was, and is, simply family.
Herbie chose to be a Taylor when he turned 18, if I remember correctly. As for myself, I never knew him as anything other than my uncle.
As a young man he had many friends all of whom he and his wife Pat are still in contact with to this day. His loyalty and friendship is cherished by all who know him.
Herbie loved cars and driving from a very young age and every one of his vehicles was in pristine condition. To this day he is an aficionado of the art of driving ... damn he is skilled at the art..... following are a few video's I took of some typical driving situations during our visit to England......
Straight line driving
The round about
Unlike their Parisian counterparts the Brits have a sense of organization and courtesy the likes of which we don't see here in North America. The horn is a device for alerting others of your presence rather than a tool of aggravation and is seldom used.
I have no idea how they determine the order of entry but it is smooth and mannerly.
