The following comment was taken from my nephew Dave S. F/B page, with permission from Javier. While it is made in reference to the present student strike in Quebec I found it insightful and relevant to what is happening in Canada today ......

Javier  To be honest, to me at least, it is reassuring to see that such popular protests are still popular in a country that seems poised to occupy an honorary spot as 51st state..in fact, very reasonable tuition fees along with our medicare system are a couple of the salient characteristics differentiating Canadian society from that of our neighbours to the south.

I also speak with some insight when I caution that when a people are so downtrodden, their spirits crushed and humiliated by decades of tyranny and corruption that the trampling of even basic human rights hardly merits notice, let alone question, you are left with Russia. And I am sure that upon reflection, you might also see that suffering a little inconvenience is a far more lenient sentence than suffering mute and broken under the heel of a gangster dictatorship. I think, anyway.:)
