Open Letter to The Burlington Post

Where do you want me to ride ?

First a little background on myself.

I am a 66 year old married senior with 4 children, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. I am in love with Burlington. Since I am not that mobile, and not yet ready for a walker or seniors cart I have purchased an e-bike to get around town. Half the fun of being 66 and somewhat mobile is taking pictures of Burlington, posting them on my blog and making comments.

Today, however was not so much fun.

I went for my usual scouting tour of Burlington looking for unique or unusual things to photograph and post but, as I stopped at the red light at the corner of Brant and Fairview (I was heading North) a black SUV going South rounded the corner heading East and, the driver actually rolled down his window and shouted "Get off the road". Since I was off the road (in the designated bike lane) all I could think of on such short notice was to suggest that he get intimate with himself. For that I apologize, not to him, to the half of Burlington who heard me.

When out riding I do all I can to respect pedestrians, bikes and especially cars since they can really hurt me. I ride the bike path as slow as I can. If for any reason I must use the sidewalk I try to respect those walking on it. When on the road I make sure, as best I can, that I don't interfere with traffic.

Unfortunately there are those riders, drivers and walkers who are self-indulgent such as this fellow. I wonder if he shouts at his parents to "Get off the road"

I sent this in to the Post yesterday. What really irks me is people complain about e-bikes yet these cyclists, with their sisters bathing suit on, fly by me on the Electric HOG. I stop at stop signs... these girly men don't ..... I signal..... do girly men NO .... Hell I have brake lights .... do they ????
