Letter to the Editor, Toronto Star:

Stephen Harper has no shame. After making Julian Fantino minister of veteran affairs and allowing him to disrespect and deprive veterans of well-deserved services and benefits, he turns around and uses our Canadian armed forces and their equipment as a backdrop for his election campaign.

He commends them for protecting Canadians after making us a terrorist target with a token military effort that is not even sanctioned by the UN. He states ...that evil left uncontained will spread like a plague without mentioning his own evil attempts to dismantle the democracy and constitutional rights our brave men and women are trying to protect.

His speech is intended to serve as a pat on the back but will these same men and women be stabbed in the back once they become veterans?

He claims inaction against the Islamic State is the worst thing but how much better are six token F-18s? He has the gall to quote our national anthem while claiming to stand on guard for a nation whose environment, democracy, integrity, honesty and reputation he has continually undermined in the service of those more interested in wealth and power.

The banishment of Stephen Harper would do significantly more for the safety, protection and future of Canada than six F-18s being used for election propaganda.
