Well, according to the Toronto Star, it looks like Wallin didn't need Wright's money:
Pamela Wallin has a lucrative life outside politics, where she has been entitled to roughly $1 million in fees and stock options for her role on corporate boards since being appointed to the Senate.The Star notes that Wallin has sat on such boards as Porter Airlines, Oil Sands Quest Inc. and CTVglobemedia since joining the Senate in 2009.

Whether she sits on a committee or not as a member of the ruling party she is in a position of influence. It makes one wonder how many of the companies she sits on the board of have received favourable decisions from this government.
Therein may lie the reasoning why Brent Rathgeber's bill had to be watered down so as to protect the many appointees within the various federal departments who favour the Harper government and can be persuaded to approve applications by corporations that a senator is a member of..
