Shame on me for not knowing.... Shame on you for remaining silent

Officials concerned about lack of food for veterans in need

Officials at the Veterans Food Bank in Calgary say they’re concerned about a severe lack of donations at the facility, especially with the holiday season fast approaching.

The food bank started up 16 years ago to gather donations specifically for veterans in need.
At first, volunteers handled about 10 hampers a month, but that number has now ballooned to nearly 100 per month.

The drive is now on for dry goods and toiletries for veterans in their early 20s suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder to First and Second World War veterans as old as 100.

Organizers say that they hope the push will help get them everything they need. “We still have hampers going out for November and Christmas hampers as well, so we’re going to need stock. It has to carry us through this time next year, hoping we can get everything we need.”

Since June, over 400 hampers have been delivered to veterans and that number appears to be growing every year.
