“The Root Cause of Terrorism”
The Harper government has refused to accept the fact that
there is a “root cause”, a motivator as to why terrorism exists in the World. I
am no expert on the subject but have been an observer for 7 decades now and suddenly
they have commissioned a study to determine what motivates terrorists and
causes them to lash out at government or other religious groups.
And therein lays the answer. Government and religion are the
“root cause” and motivator for certain factions to turn to terrorist
activities.
We can be sure that Harper and the evangelicals will
disagree with my assertion since both are blind to the truth.
In medieval times the Catholic Church looked upon those of
other religions either as pagans or heretics. Huguenots’ were burned at the
stake as were British seaman who sought refuge from storms in French or Spanish
waters. They sent missionaries around the World converting the “pagans” to
Catholicism.
When they attempted to impose their beliefs on the Arab
world they were rejected and in some instances slaughtered. African nations
replied in much the same manner although they did experience some success. Both
the French and British government imposed their influence and rule over the
African and Asian countries.
The Boxer rebellion of 1898 to 1901 in China was a good
example of a people rising up to assert its own beliefs and governance against
a foreign government and religious group which led to the eventual creation of
the Republic of China in 1912.
After World War II the expansion of communism by Russia and
China created much concern in Democratic
countries. Korea, Vietnam and South America all experienced the effects of
terrorist activities. Jews were without a country as a result of WW II and
began to lay claim to “the chosen land”, terrorism was their primary weapon.
Cuba’s uprising against imperialistic greed and control of
the country led to the expulsion of Batista and the country’s new leader Fidel
Castro. Castro then dispatched his close friend and ally, Che Guevara, to South
America to free the various countries from the grasp of dictatorship and
imperialistic governments.
The so called free world countries of America, Great Britain
and France intervened in Africa, the Mideast and South America as well as
Vietnam, China and Korea. Each time they were subjected to terrorist activities
by people either fighting against imperialism or against tyranny.
The “root
cause” of terrorism has always been government, either as a result of tyranny
or by foreign government intervention.
