Vic Toews - Insensitive or a bigot?

As a non-practising Christian I was shocked to read the latest cuts to our prison system was the chopping of non-Christian clergy who council inmates. The vast majority of those who are to be dropped by this un-Christian like attack on other religions are part time to begin with.

Vic Toews expects Christian clergy to minister to those prisoners of Muslim, Sikh, Buddhist and Jewish faith. Really, how will a Catholic or Protestant council to non-Christian faiths?

Everyone who has a need of counseling should have access to a leader from their own faith. It is a matter of respect and sensitivity that one cannot nor should not attach a dollar value to. The bottom line is it is heartless and bigoted, but nothing less than one can expect from Vic Toews and this hate mongering Conservative government.

The Appeal of Conscience Foundation, a New York inter-faith group, just declared Stephen Harper the Statesman of the Year. Part of the reasoning was the Harper governments $20 million "Office of Religious Freedom". When I first heard of the award I thought it was a sham now I am convinced since Vic Toews and Stephen Harper have slammed the door of the Office of Religious Freedom in the face of the Appeal of Conscience Foundation.

Let us not forget that prior to the Conservatives taking office Canada had a 16 billion dollar "surplus" we also had all the services and departments that the Harper "Slash and Gut" policies are destroying. A good example of the results of this "Slash and Gut" policy is what has happened recently with the CFIA and XL Foods..... a failure to protect the people.

One can expect many more system failures over the next few years and according to Tony "Sidewalk to Nowhere" Clement there is deeper gutting to come.
