Canada adds 52,000 jobs but unemployment rises to 7.4 %

The figures are NOT positive

Month after month Canadians hear how successful the Conservative job creation program is yet the unemployment figures never change. The picture has stalled at 7.3 % for the past couple of years and the Conservatives brag about how many new jobs are being created while more and more Canadians have given up and no longer are counted among the statistics.

Some two thirds of the 52,000 jobs are self employment which means that many of the unemployed are fed up of waiting for the Conservatives Action Plan to start working. The latest budget figures show that the Conservatives did not meet their projection on the deficit. With fewer people employed and those that are earning less tax revenues are down. Add to this the tax advantages afford the rich and corporations it is obvious why targets are missed and they have a need to slash and gut services.

Two things we are not hearing from Stats-Can are the welfare applications and the number of personal bankruptcies. Why? Because welfare is a Provincial responsibility and bankruptcy is a negative figure that reflects a lack of growth.

Following are some statistics on bankruptcies and proposals over the past 10 year ...

* pay particular attention to consumer bankruptcies/proposals between 2008 and 2010
