Andrew Scheer’s no Bill Davis. That’s what I tell all of my friends old enough to remember. Davis was a true progressive conservative.
He knew education was the key to our success and he led Ontario into the future by building universities and establishing the colleges to provide students with the skills they needed to succeed.
Scheer’s not a visionary and he’s not progressive. He’s the opposite. His party was so ashamed of the term, they removed in from their name and became the regressive Conservative Party they are today.
Davis created Canada’s first environment ministry because he recognized the value of clean air and water. Scheer’s reckless energy and environmental plans will take us back to the last century and the smog days we eliminated when we closed the last coal plant.
Davis expanded the human rights code. Scheer opposes rights for transgendered Canadians and voted against same sex marriage.
That’s a little bit old-fashioned even for someone my age. Why shouldn’t people be able to choose who they love without the government getting involved?
Davis established TVO because he recognized the value of public television. Scheer wants to close CBC news, probably because they don’t pander to him like the Toronto Sun does. With all of the fake news out there, the CBC has never been more important to Canadians.
It’s sad what has become of the old party. It’s not like it used to be and Andrew Scheer’s no Bill Davis. There’s no going back. I won’t be voting Conservative.
