from the comment section of a CBC article on teaching abroad

The problem is that the global economy is faltering, and fewer people can afford to enter into post secondary education.

The federal government is focused elsewhere and reducing funding for education.
...
Governments are bending to the will of corporations, money and power. Attention to higher standards of education and availability of education for all the citizens could surely nurture, develop and produce the creative intelligent minds required to find solutions to our economic, social and other needs of our nation.

Harper in fact, has been discouraging higher education in favour of technical studies to support the oil and gas industry. I suppose there is some merit with that notion.

But

If higher education is unnecessary, . .
why is it required by any of the professions?
Do we really want more Rob Fords running our country, provinces or cities?
and why are other countries vying for our teachers with attractive signing bonuses?

Why is Harper dumbing down our future?
