I think a lot of us had hoped that the CPC convention would yield some watershed moments in the backlash against PMSH's contempt for Canadians. Not so much. And so Harper waltzes along, secure in his narcissistic belief that he is above the law, above the opinions of Canadians, and invincible.
Furthermore, he has come away with a gift. 3,000 of the most rabidly right-wing Canadians have given him a mandate to gut the CBC, attack the labour movement, resurrect the abortion debate, lock people up for longer (consecutive vs concurrent sentencing), open the door for private prisons, and entrench gun ownership, not to mention allowing for discrimination on religious grounds (as in, religious people are allowed to discriminate). Which leaves me wondering what irritation will prompt him to pull the plug on this sham of democracy and just have those who oppose him arrested.\
The convention totally played into his sociopathic and narcissism. He said he couldn't care less what they (presumably the 60+% of Canadians who did NOT vote for him) say. Parliament is going through the motions. But we all know that no matter how eloquent Mulcair is, he will get no real answers. Conservatives control the vote in the House, the Senate, and all the committees.
Apparently the GG views himself as a tool of the PM. So, if Harper decides to not call an election in 2015, then what? I honestly cannot see any recourse. He will control the Supreme Court (courtesy of the most recent omnibill). Sorry for being a downer here. I am just mulling it over while watching the train wreck of the Ford brothers on radio this afternoon. We are in a handbasket and the path is downhill...\
Thanks Norlaine
