We have to stop the right before there is nothing left for our children and grandchildren

Supporting the political right means opposing a habitable planet

(Canadian right-wing) forces are only getting more co-ordinated in using public money, political power and weaponized hate to insist we have no option but to be complicit in the destruction of our climate, writes columnist Greg Fingas.
Even as our political class goes backwards, public movements demanding action on climate change are increasing in size and effectiveness around the globe.
We’ve seen weekly climate protests become fixtures at Saskatchewan’s legislature as part of the Fridays for Future campaign, with a particularly large event planned for this week. And in the U.K., the success of Extinction Rebellion protests has brought climate change to the top of the agenda — both for the entire Labour Party in pushing for a declaration of a climate emergency, and for cross-partisan groups putting together a Green New Deal.
Meanwhile, plenty of work is being done in developing solutions for climate change — including ones which go beyond the most familiar climate issues.
In particular, the Drawdown project has received a recent surge of attention for its research into how emissions can be curbed drastically based on the peer-reviewed effects of existing technology.
Yet even in examining the broad range of actions which can help to sustain our planet, there’s no escaping how Drawdown’s options map onto a partisan divide which stands in the way of a healthy climate.
