Memories from Ivan

Back in 1983-4 or there abouts, when I was trading  money market in Montreal a  (competitor) working for Burns Fry wanted to get rid of his 1970 Triumph  TR3 mark iv.  Not getting his price of $3500, he decided to raffle the car off. He sold 100  tickets to traders in the business for $50 a piece and then threw a party at the Capitol Club in downtown Montreal.

Booze and food was a plenty and Bob Tremblay proceeded with the draw around 9:00 PM

They way it worked was that all the names on the tickets sold were individually put in capsules and and then put in the bowl. Then the first capsule out was the winner and was put on a shelf for later reveal. But not to spoil the party the other names were drawn out 1 by 1 and crossed off a list until the winner was revealed at the end of the draw.

But from a gambling traders point of view, there was money to be made. As the names came out and got down to the last 30 or so, side bets were started, making  money guessing who was in the capsule on the shelf.

The whole thing ended around midnight and low and behold I was the name in the capsule. My 3 partners from Beaubien Levesque made around $ 800  in bets on my winning ticket.

Next day made arrangements with Bob , picked up the car in Verdun and drove it home.

Liked it but always had fights with the kids and the wife to on who was going to ride with me.

Kept in for  3 years and sold it for $5000 after putting a little money on parts and maintenance.

Don't know where all  the pictures went but I did turn up one.

Thanks Ivan
