Since you don't understand

Dear #DaughtersoftheVote2019, as you turn your back on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the advances made by women in politics and the work place under his government - lets take a walk down memory lane with the previous government, a #thread#cdnpoli #cdnmedia
- Under the previous government, Canada fell from #1 in the world for gender equality to #18 in 2011.
- Canada’s gender pay gap was the world’s seventh best in 2004, but dropped to 25th place by 2009. #DaughtersoftheVote2019#cdnpoli
- The Harper government voted against pay equity a number of times.
- The Harper Government Harper government closed 12 of 16 Status of Women regional offices, and cut its budget by 34%
#DaughtersoftheVote2019 #cdnpoli
- It also cut funding for over 41 women’s organizations. These include women’s shelters, advocates for women’s health, equality and security.
- Cancelled funding for legal challenges to enforce the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. #DaughtersoftheVote2019 #cdnpoli
– removed the word “equality” from Status of Women Canada’s departmental mandate.
- Cut a national childcare program negotiated with the provinces for $100 a month payment. #cdnpoli #DaughtersoftheVote2019
- In December of 2014, Stephen Harper said that missing and murdered indigenous women “isn’t really high on our radar, to be honest.”
- In May of 2015, your government voted against Motion-444, a call to take steps to address violence against women. #DaughtersoftheVote2019
- In 2009, the CPC passed the Public Sector Equitable Compensation Act. The change meant female public servants were actually barred from complaining to the Human Rights Commission about job pay inequity.

Now lets look at where we have gone.

Results from the 2017 Canadian Income Survey show that Canada has reached its lowest poverty rate in history. With the Canada Child Benefit and the top-up to Guaranteed Income Supplement, there were 825,000 fewer Canadians living in poverty in 2017 than 2015. #cdnmedia #cdnpoli
In 2018, the Government of Canada introduced proactive pay equity legislation, an Act to Establish a Proactive Pay Equity Regime within the Federal Public and Private Sectors (Pay Equity Act). This will ensure that more women are fairly compensated for their work. #cdnpoli
In 2018, the Liberal government introduced gender based analysis in the federal budget by including a specific gender report that breaks down how the budget benefits both men and women. #DaughtersoftheVote2019 #cdnpoli
Introduced the Women’s Program, that supports organizations that provide assistance in three areas: 1) Ending violence against women. 2) Improving women’s economic security and prosperity. 3) Encouraging women in leadership and decision-making roles. #DaughtersoftheVote2019
After 9 years of cuts to women's programs, and a government wide failure to acknowledge gender inequality there has been a massive improvement over the last 3 1/2 years under Justin Trudeau - turning your back on this seems so unnecessary. #DaughtersoftheVote2019 #cdnpoli
I am not asking anyone to settle or expect less, I am merely looking at history for how specific governments value equality and progress. As a father to a teenage daughter and husband to a wife who has struggled for equality as an educator, I feel it valid to point out. #cdnpoli
I realize that I am stepping in on a polarizing subject, I realize that I will be accused of mansplaining or worse. Please point any errors I have made, or facts that I have misstated. I make no judgement on any who protest, I am merely discussing my perspective. #cdnpoli
