Fear of malicious attacks may be behind voter failure to register

With Elections Canada distributing voter lists to all parties it is very possible that the Canadian people are hesitant to provide personal information to any political party in fear of being targeted by other parties, in particular their governing party.

The recent reports of the problems the Liberal leadership campaign is having in registering voters may well be an indication of voter apprehension.

During the last election many Canadians were targeted by RoboCalls directing them to alternate voting sites that either did not exist or were not in their area. As a result of these improprieties voters have a distrust for their government and the protection of their personal information.

It begs the question....

- what is too much information and why should the political parties have access?

- Will an individual be targeted by the Federalies based on their political allegiance?

- Is Canada becoming a Third World country where rights and freedom of speech are in jeopardy?

If a government can, and does, suppress or obstruct access to information that is funded by taxpayers or, individuals, media and opposing groups are targeted by their government then we are no better than a country under dictatorship.
