Yesterday as President Trump attempted to blame Canada for US dairy problems I was walking by the White House. (At World Bank and IMF mtgs in DC) All he had to do was ask and I would have explained Canada has a policy where we match supply to effective demand without subsidies. We open 10% of our market to imports while the US only allows 3%. The US has a trade surplus in dairy with Canada. The US needs to look inward at it massive support programs using taxpayer monies without any controls on production. Maybe President Trump should start to question the industry for its exploitation of US farmers? In Canada we have a lot to be proud off as fair traders and our industry can take pride in its supply management system working in the interests of both producers and consumers.
