Historians say that TIPPING started in Roman times, others say it started in England.
Some countries practice it, others do not.
The word TIP is thought to come from the saying; To Insure Promptness.
I left my house early yesterday morning to do some typical retired-person "stuff"
I went to the Barber shop, upon getting my hair cut, I gave my barber a TIP.
Then I went to the bank to do some business. I didn't give the teller a TIP.

Then I went to the variety store to buy some lottery tickets. I didn't give the store clerk a TIP.
I also went to the grocery store and Walmart. I didn't give the cashiers a TIP.
My wife and I then went to the Chinese Restaurant for a small lunch and we left a TIP.
(Yes, I did take a nap in the afternoon, after all that hard work).
We have been brain washed and told by the "experts" what service industries
deserve tips and the desired amount to leave. I say that's crap.
It bothers me to see people confused over how much TIP to leave when
the situation arises.
Just make your own decision by giving (or not) how much you want to
and who you want to give to.
That's how I treat the TIPPING custom.
Thanks Joe Y
