"Racism is a form of stupidity. Its legacy in America is evident whenever someone plots some indicator of stupidity on America's map. The states with the least education, highest illiteracy, the lowest belief in science (eg evolution, climate change, vaccines), highest teen pregnancy rates, pretty much every indicator of intellectual backwardness you can mention.... it is ALWAYS the former Confederate slave states, where racism was and remains a cultural core value, that stand out.
