A new NAFTA deal was reached. While there's much to be critical of, scrapping investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) rules is a big. win.
Tens of thousands of everyday people across Canada campaigned for years to pull the plug on these dangerous rules that let billionaire US corporations sue Canada out of tens of million in secret tribunals when they don't like our laws or policies.
Canada has been forced to overturn democratic decisions and pay tens of millions of dollars to corporations that claim our environmental, health, and labour regulations hurt their profits. Scrapping these rules is a major win for democracy.
