Citizen Shame: Politics, Paul Godfrey and Postmedia’s humiliation

What the hell happened?

That question is still being asked by a lot of people who were surprised (perhaps rudely) by Justin Trudeau’s landslide victory on October 19.

The Conservatives pondered for all of five minutes on why they got their clocks cleaned. It wasn’t exactly soul-searching; you need a soul to do that. The lust for power as an end in itself doesn’t qualify. That’s just vampires trying to pick the lock at the blood bank.

The CPC reached the grand conclusion that their demise came down to adopting the wrongtone — an odd description for ten years of lying, cheating and delivering bad policy. There was their stone-age approach to the environment, the ruinous TPP trade deal, the Zero Tolerance for Barbaric Cultural Practices Act, and so much more. I hate to say it, but if anything revives the Conservatives, it won’t be Big Hair or fake civility.
