NBC News has a segment about planned terrorist attacks on Canadian soil that was told to them by "unspecified sources". Part of the story is supposedly something that occurred years ago but was immediately quashed.
Rather than investigate the facts behind this rather opportune story that appeared on a foreign TV network Federal government Ministers and officials use the story in the HoC and then quote the story as if it is fact even after the report is revised to correct the errors.
"The NBC News report that cited unnamed intelligence sources and suggested extremists were plotting “knife and gun attacks” was first published early Wednesday evening, but was amended hours later, removing references to the potential targets.
But despite the revision to NBC‘s report, the Conservative chair of the Public Safety Committee cited the report on Thursday.
“Yesterday, American media reported Islamic State sympathizers were planning an attack on the American embassy in Ottawa and a shopping mall,” Daryl Kramp said.
Kramp’s words added to the concern of possible extremist attacks shared by Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney on Wednesday, who referenced last year’s al-Shabab attack on an upscale shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya.
“It happened in Nairobi, Kenya. It could happen here,” Blaney said during a House of Commons public safety committee."
