Lobbying... a political term for buying politicians. The term was coined by political parties in an attempt to sound clean. It is still the dirty little secret it always was.
Oil interests are the biggest purchasers of politicians......
Heavy lobbying by the oil and gas industry has far outstripped any other interest group seeking to "influence" the Harper government over the last four years, according to a new study that examined the lobbyist registry.
The left-leaning Polaris Institute contends that the more than 2,700 meetings between oil and gas lobbyists and federal office holders since 2008 have helped turn Canada into a "petro state."
Prime Minister Stephen Harper has been promoting Canada as an emerging "energy super power" since coming to office in 2006.

The key word in the statement above is "influence". Lobbying is nothing other than "influence peddling" the dirtiest of all terms when one talks about politics. It supersedes "in the publics best interest".
