The union wants an inquiry into the XL Foods fiasco and rightfully so. The failure to monitor and inspect the processing begins at the top.... the Conservative government and trickles down to the CFIA and the owners of the company... the Nilsson brothers.
The Conservative cutbacks and policy changes which allow companies to do their own inspection and the CFIA failure to monitor and police the production allowed the Nilsson brothers to run the company like a sweat shop.

The same people who, under the Harris government, failed Ontarians are failing Canada. Jim Flaherty and Tony Clement were instrumental in the Harris' governments "Common Sense Revolution" that was a major contributor to the Walkerton problem. Now they are a National problem.
It is a sad state of affairs when those the voter expects to act in their best interest are the ones undermining their health and welfare.
Alison Redford should be outraged by the Federal government and XL Foods failures yet she heaped praise on the industry rather than demand action. I for one refuse to eat Alberta beef and hopefully thousands of others will follow suit. And, no I am not naive enough to believe other meat packers are any better than XL Foods but until the Federal and Provincial governments as well as the Nilsson brothers clean up their act and do something constructive for a change I will take my chances elsewhere.
