Palais de Versaille

This was our launching point to Versaille.

We met a retired doctor and his wife from Tucson Arizona as we boarded the bus they had arrived the previous day via Holland and were staying at the Ritz. The Ritz was being closed for 2 years so that they could renovate the entire hotel. The night before we met them the hotel had a celebration in the lounge to thank the regular customers. It was a theme party in honour of their favorite guest Ernest Hemmingway. Everyone wore period costumes.

The good doctors wife is the daughter of Louie Pheeters the town drunk on Gunsmoke and, when the program ended, he took the vest that he wore on the show as a souvenir. Their daughter now has it mounted in a frame. As it turns out the vest that Louie Pheeters wore on the program is the same one worn by Clark Gable in Gone with the wind.
