VIDEO: James Moore defends using tax dollars to promote unelected Conservative candidates
Can Conservatives spin using taxpayers' money to promote their own unelected candidates?
Well, Industry Minister James Moore gave it a shot Monday.
Rising in the House of Commons during Question Period, Moore responded to questions raised about several Conservative ministers' use of "public funds" to promote an unelected Conservative candidate at several official government events.
What did Moore say? He said raising questions about Conservative ministers using taxpayers' money to promote their own candidates is a "personal attack against a Canadian veteran" and, besides, the unelected Conservative candidate who was promoted at these taxpayer-funded events is a "great Canadian":

Open Letter to MP Tony Clement: Muskoka To-daily
We’re not ‘violent terrorists,’ withdraw Bill C-51
(The remarks in quotation marks below come directly from Tony Clement’s email reply to our email.)
...
Thank you for your reply to our email expressing our deep concern about Bill C-51. We have a few comments to make about your reply.
First of all, we requested that, as our representative in Parliament, you carry our concerns about this bill to your party and to the committee examining the bill. Nowhere in your response did you acknowledge that you will do so. Instead you basically said your party will pass the bill.
Secondly, we find your language about “jihadi terrorists”, “violent extremists” and “radical Islamic extremists” to be offensive, inflammatory, and extreme to say the least. This language is obviously designed to whip up anti-Islamic hatred and to sow fear among ordinary Canadians.
But we guess you are required to stick to your talking notes rather than listening to your constituents.
And, although we are not legal experts, we can clearly see that inclusion of the word “lawful” dissent in the bill indicates that those choosing to participate in acts of civil disobedience (including, but not exclusively, First Nations) would be deemed to be “violent terrorists.”
We also see that our right to oppose “critical infrastructure,” such as new pipelines in vulnerable areas or dangerous shipments in rail cars passing through the centres of our Muskoka towns will be severely limited for fear of our being secretly placed on a terrorist watch list.
Finally, we and many other Canadians feel that with this bill, it is you and your government that “seek to destroy the very principles that make Canada the best country in the world to live in.”
Let us be clear, we expect nothing less than that your government listen to the experts and to Canadians across the country and withdraw this bill.

Harper making Canada look like hate mongers to the World
Ralph Nader tells Stephen Harper to stop acting like George W. Bush
February 18, 2015
The Right Honourable Stephen Harper, P.C., M.P.
80 Wellington Street
Ottawa, ON K1A 0A2
Dear Prime Minister:
Many Americans love Canada and the specific benefits that have come to our country from our northern neighbor’s many achievements (see Canada Firsts by Nader, Conacher and Milleron). Unfortunately, your latest proposed legislation—the new anti-terrorism act—is being described by leading Canadian civil liberties scholars as hazardous to Canadian democracy.
A central criticism was ably summarized in a February 2015 Globe and Mail editorial titled “Parliament Must Reject Harper’s Secret Policeman Bill,” to wit:
Particularly noticeable in your announcement were your exaggerated expressions that exceed the paranoia of Washington’s chief attack dog, former vice-president Dick Cheney. Mr. Cheney periodically surfaces to update his pathological war-mongering oblivious to facts—past and present—including his criminal war of aggression which devastated Iraq—a country that never threatened the U.S.
You are quoted as saying that “jihadi terrorism is one of the most dangerous enemies our world has ever faced” as a predicate for your gross over-reaction that “violent jihadism seeks to destroy” Canadian “rights.” Really? Pray tell, which rights rooted in Canadian law are “jihadis” fighting in the Middle East to obliterate? You talk like George W. Bush.
How does “jihadism” match up with the lives of tens of millions of innocent civilians, destroyed since 1900 by state terrorism—west and east, north and south—or the continuing efforts seeking to seize or occupy territory?

A central criticism was ably summarized in a February 2015 Globe and Mail editorial titled “Parliament Must Reject Harper’s Secret Policeman Bill,” to wit:
“Prime Minister Stephen Harper never tires of telling Canadians that we are at war with the Islamic State. Under the cloud of fear produced by his repeated hyperbole about the scope and nature of the threat, he now wants to turn our domestic spy agency into something that looks disturbingly like a secret police force.
Canadians should not be willing to accept such an obvious threat to their basic liberties. Our existing laws and our society are strong enough to stand up to the threat of terrorism without compromising our values.”

The Purveyors of Bullshit meam more to Stephen Harper than the citizens of Canada do
Ottawa’s spin doctor payroll rivals that of the Commons
Recently released numbers reveal that 3,325 spin doctors toil for the Harper government at an estimated cost in 2014 of $263 million.
Recently released numbers reveal that 3,325 spin doctors toil for the Harper government at an estimated cost in 2014 of $263 million.
When we’re spending nearly as much on spin as we are on the House of Commons, we’re on a very slippery slope indeed.
Last week, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation released the head count and salary costs of the federal government’s legion of information services staff.
The numbers, released in response to an access to information request, reveal that 3,325 spin doctors toil for the Harper government at an estimated cost this year of $263 million.
Despite the Harper government’s avowed objective to reduce the federal public service by 19,000 positions, the ranks of communications staff have grown by 163 since the Conservatives took office, while costs have risen by $48 million.
The combined payroll of federal spin doctors rivals the $329-million payroll of the House of Commons, the beating heart of our democracy, the institution we rely upon to keep hundreds of thousands of federal officials accountable.
And the payroll hit for communications staff — $263 million — does not include the RCMP, the military, the Canada Revenue Agency, independent tribunals such as the Canadian Human Rights Commission or Crown corporations. This is just the core public service we’re talking about. Who knows what it costs Canada Post for media spinners to explain that community mailboxes are better for us than door-to-door delivery?
Musicians take to the porches Saturday in NDG
This Saturday people walking through NDG should expect to hear music everywhere they turn.
While it's common in the neighbourhood for musicians to open windows and practice, this will be the first organized mass concert.
More than 60 musicians and bands will be playing as part of Porchfest NDG, with concerts scheduled to begin every hour from noon until 4 p.m.

The Duck
A duck walks into a pub and orders a pint of beer and a ham sandwich.
Thanks Kerry
The barman looks at him and says, 'Hang on! You're a duck.'
'I see your eyes are working,' replies the duck.
'And you can talk!' exclaims the barman.
'I see your ears are working, too,' says the duck. 'Now if you don't
mind, can I have my beer and my sandwich please?'
'Certainly, sorry about that,' says the barman as he pulls the duck's pint.
'It's just we don't get many ducks in this pub. What are you doing round
this way?'
'I'm working on the building site across the road,' explains the duck. 'I'm
a dry-waller.'
The flabbergasted barman cannot believe the duck and wants to learn more,
but takes the hint when the duck pulls out a newspaper from his bag and
proceeds to read it.
So, the duck reads his paper, drinks his beer, eats his sandwich, bids the
barman good day and leaves.
The same thing happens for two weeks.
Then one day the circus comes to town.
The ringmaster comes into the pub for a pint and the barman says to him
'You're with the circus, aren't you? Well, I know this duck that could be
just brilliant in your circus. He talks, drinks beer, eats sandwiches,
reads the newspaper and everything!'
'Sounds marvelous,' says the ringmaster, handing over his business card.
'Get him to give me a call.'
So the next day when the duck comes into the pub the barman says, 'Hey
Mr.Duck, I reckon I can line you up with a top job, paying really good
money.'
'I'm always looking for the next job,' says the duck. 'Where is it?'
'At the circus,' says the barman.
'The circus?' repeats the duck.
'That's right,' replies the barman.
'The circus?' the duck asks again. 'That place with the big tent?'
'Yeah,' the barman replies.
'With all the animals who live in cages and performers who live in
caravans?' says the duck.
'Of course,' the barman replies.
'And the tent has canvas sides and a big canvas roof with a hole in the
middle?' persists the duck.
'That's right!' says the barman.
The duck shakes his head in amazement, and says ...
'What would they want with a drywaller??!'
I miss Bill ...
It doesn't matter what party you belong to - this is good natured political humour from a show on Canadian TV, where a black comedian said he misses Bill Clinton. "Yep, that's right - I miss Bill Clinton!"
He was the closest thing we ever got to having a real black man as President.
*He played the sax.
Thanks Heather C*He smoked weed.*He had his way with ugly white women.*Even now? Look at him ... his wife works, and he doesn't! And, he gets a check from the government every month.*Manufacturers announced today that they will be stocking America 's shelves this week with " Clinton Soup," in honor of one of the nations' distinguished men. It consists primarily of a weenie in hot water.*Chrysler Corporation is adding a new car to its line to honour Bill Clinton. The Dodge Drafter will be built in Canada.*When asked what he thought about foreign affairs, Clinton replied, "I don't know, I never had one."*The Clinton revised judicial oath: "I solemnly swear to tell the truth as I know it, the whole truth as I believe it to be, and nothing but what I think you need to know."*Clinton will be recorded in history as the only President to do Hanky Panky between the Bushes.
Peter Kay Misheard Lyrics
This is brilliant...
It is so easy to mishear the lyrics with the modern singers.
…They don't come much funnier than this.
