One day
One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut.
After the cut, he asked about his bill, and the barber replied, 'I cannot
accept money from you, I'm doing community service this week.'
The florist was pleased and left the shop.
When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a 'thank
you' card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.
Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the
barber again replied, 'I cannot accept money from you, I'm doing community
service this week.'
The cop was happy and left the shop.
The next morning when the barber went to open up, there was a 'thank you'
card and a dozen doughnuts waiting for him at his door.
Then a Member of Parliament came in for a haircut, and when he went to pay
his bill, the barber again replied, 'I cannot accept money from you.
I'm doing community service this week.'
The Member of Parliament was very happy and left the shop.
The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen
Members of Parliament lined up waiting for a free haircut.
And that, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between the
citizens of our country and the politicians who run it.
LOOK AT THIS MOTORCYCLE!!
Here is a rare photo of a NYC PD traffic motorcycle policeman on his Indian motorcycle. The year is May 18, 1918. Today many people are opposed to stop and frisk. Can you imagine seeing this coming at you with that machine gun mounted on the motorcycle?
Ladies Golf Day
One morning three women are putting on the fourth green at the club when suddenly a guy runs by wearing nothing but a bag over his head.
As he passes by the first woman, she looks down and says, "Well, he's certainly not my husband."
As he passes by the second woman, she also glances down and says, "He's not my husband either."
He then passes by the third woman, who stares carefully and shouts, "Wait a minute! He's not even a member of the club!

MP Joyce Murray speech in Parliament standing up for CAF members and veterans
Since 2009, the Standing Committee on National Defence issued a report which provided both an assessment of the government’s CAF mental health strategy and 36 concrete recommendations to address the issues and gaps they found. Recommendations, everything from prevention to early identification to addressing stigma to providing support and integrating resources, finding ways to make sure that the medical professionals are hired and available and that the assessments continue over the course of years and that the military reservists are included.
Four and a half years later, this report gathers dust on a shelf in the minister’s office. Many of the recommendations, I would say most of the recommendations, have not been implemented and there has not been a single follow-up report from the government.
In 2012, the Canadian Forces Ombudsman recommended that the Canadian Forces evaluate its “capacity” to respond to the PTSD/OSI challenge and to address the “palpable and growing tension between commander and clinician relative to OSI medical treatment and administrative support”. Yet the government seems to be caught by surprise, rushing forward to claim that now it will provide solutions, while remarkably still ignoring the fundamental issues that created these problems in the first place.
There is not only a lack of resources, there is a lack of care and a lack of intention to make this a priority. More than just ignoring the issue, the Conservative government has actively made it more difficult to provide adequate care to Canadian Armed Forces service members and veterans alike.
The ombudsman made recommendations to enable “more decisive leadership of the mental health system’s capacity to meet the OSI imperative”, yet we found out that in 2010, there was a hiring freeze. Therefore, the efforts made by the Surgeon General and military medical personnel to fill the gaps in medical professional care have been consistently and routinely blocked by that hiring freeze, which the government and the minister responsible chose to do absolutely nothing about.
Of the 12 recommendations made by the ombudsman to improve the treatment of injured reservists, only 4 were judged to have been fully implemented in his follow-up. That is 4 out of 12. That is a failing grade.
Contrary to its claims of unprecedented support – and more than one photo op, I might add – the government has failed to reach even the benchmarks for mental health professionals set in 2003 under a previous Liberal government, to say nothing of the new levels now needed after over a decade of engagement in Afghanistan, including in some of the most dangerous terrain.

This is priceless
CANCEL YOUR CREDIT CARD BEFORE YOU DIE ....... JUST PRICELESS
Reported in the Newcastle Evening Chronicle Recently:
Be sure and cancel your credit cards before you die! This is so priceless. And so easy to see happening - customer service, being what it is today!
A lady died this last September, and MBNA bank billed her in October and November for their annual service charges on her credit card, and then in December added late fees and interest on the monthly charge.
The balance that had been 0.00 pounds sterling, now is somewhere around - 60.00 pounds. A family member rang MBNA:
Family Member: 'I am calling to tell you that my grandmother died in September.'
MBNA: 'But the account was never closed and so the late fees and charges still apply.'
Family Member: 'Maybe, you should turn it over to your collections section.'
MBNA: Since it is two months overdue, it already has been.'
Family Member: So, what will they do when they find out she is dead?'
MBNA: 'Either report her account to the Frauds Department or report her to The Credit bureau, maybe both!'
Family Member: 'Do you think God will be upset with her?'
MBNA: 'Excuse me?'
Family Member: 'Did you just get what I was telling you . . The part about her being dead?'
MBNA: 'Sir, you'll have to speak to my supervisor.'
Supervisor gets on the phone:
Family Member: 'I'm phoning to tell you, she died in September.'
MBNA: 'But the account was never closed and the late fees and charges still apply.'
Family Member: 'You mean you want to collect from her estate?'
MBNA: (Stammer) 'Are you her solicitor?'
Family Member: 'No, I'm her grandson.'
MBNA: 'Could you fax us a death certificate?'
Family Member: 'no problem.' (fax number is given) After they get the fax:
MBNA: 'Our system just isn't set up for death. I don't know what more I can do to help.'
Family Member: 'Well, if you sort it out, great! If not, you could just keep billing her. I don't think she will care.'
MBNA: 'Well, the late fees and charges will still apply.'
Family Member: Would you like her new billing address?'
MBNA: 'That would help.'
Family Member: 'Plot 1049, Heaton Cemetery , Heaton Road , Newcastle upon Tyne .'
MBNA: 'But, that's a cemetery!'
Family Member: 'Well, what the f*** do you do with dead people on your planet?'
The MBNA were not available for comment when a reporter from the Newcastle Evening Chronicle rang them!!
Thanks Richard

Missionary duty
A Priest was about to finish his Missionary tour of duty, and was leaving his Mission in the jungle where he has spent years teaching the natives, in their language, when he realizes that the one thing he never really taught them much was how to speak English.
So he takes the chief for a walk in the forest. He points to a tree and says to the chief, "This is a tree." The chief looks at the tree and grunts, "Tree." The Priest is pleased with the response.
They walk a little further and he points to a rock and says, "This is a rock." The chief looks and grunts, "Rock." The Priest was really getting enthusiastic about the results when he hears a rustling in the bushes.
As they peek over the top, he sees a couple of natives in the midst of heavy sexual activity. The Priest is really flustered and quickly says, "Man riding a bike." The chief looks at the couple briefly, pulls out his blowgun and kills them both. The Priest goes ballistic and yells at the chief that he has spent years teaching the tribe how to be civilized and be kind to each other, so how could he kill these people in cold blood that way?
And the chief replied, ”My bike."
ENJOY YOUR DAY and remember to keep off the main roads when riding somebody else's bicycle.
Thanks Kerry
"Twas the month after Christmas"!!!
T'was the month after Christmas,
and all through the house,
Nothing would fit me,
and all through the house,
Nothing would fit me,
not even a blouse.
The cookies I'd nibbled,
the chocolate I'd taste
At the holiday parties
had gone to my waist.
When I got on the scales
there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store
(less a walk than a lumber),
I'd remember the marvellous meals I'd prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,
The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
And the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please."
As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt
And prepared once again to do battle with dirt...
I said to myself, as I only can,
"You can't spend a winter, disguised as a man!"
So, away with the last of the sour cream dip.
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip.
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
Till all the additional ounces have vanished.
I won't have a cookie, not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.
I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie.
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.

I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore..
But isn't that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy New Year to all, and to all a good diet.
Thanks Shirley
