The Harper Conservative government of disrepute is up to their usual black tricks in the Con bag. This time it is all about the EI dollar numbers. If one cannot project, one would not be able to compare the projection dollar amount to what was actually spent. Thus hiding the true numbers.....http://o.canada.com/news/national/federal-government-spending-estimates-dont-include-ei/
On another front - Clement is pulling the con trick of pretending to negotiate, while already booking the savings and thus a done deal. The only trick is to con the federal retirees.........http://www.ottawacitizen.com/health/Clement+vows+leave+stone+unturned+hunt+savings/9553452/story.html
OTTAWA – The government has removed one of the largest spending lines from its annual spending forecasts, saying Employment Insurance budget figures won’t be available until the end of the calendar year.
While the government said in the main estimates, released Thursday, that it will spend $1.6 billion more this fiscal year than last on what are called “transfers to persons” (such as Old Age Security payments), that number doesn’t include what the government expects to give unemployed Canadians over the next 12 months.
A spokeswoman for Treasury Board President Tony Clement said the EI figure wasn’t needed in the main estimates because Parliament doesn’t vote on the budget for Employment Insurance during the estimates process.
The decision to remove it from the forecasting document was made last fall to improve the “clarity and usability” of the main estimates, Heather Domereckyj said.
