Senior abuse

So, you think abuse is something that only occurs amongst the youth of this world, well you are wrong.

I am writing this because of a friend and reader who was recently admonished and then censored from a FB page. The moderator/administrator never made an effort to get to know this person. I just want him to know he is NOT alone and that it is OK to have an unconventional youth.

I, too had an unconventional upbringing, my parents had no prejudices they were open minded and accepting of everyone regardless of their position in life. That's a good thing you say but by the age of 12 they had lived at 5 different addresses, I at 6, they left me with my grandparents. By the time we landed in Greenfield Park it was 7 for them and 8 for me. The moves continued until I married Pat however mom and dad continued to relocate. As most of you are aware mom and dad were heavy into foster care, as a result I was shuffled around the house from bedroom to bedroom as the need arose.

Nothing phased mom and dad, I could have walked in and declared I was gay and that would be OK.

To those of you who are members of the St. Lambert FB page and the Greenfield Park coffee shop page, and have read my posting about George Williamson, you are aware of the consequences of not getting to know or understand someone.

I am not proud of my actions and have reserved my opinion of people ever since.

We lived in "The Barracks" a development that today's residents like to call Lawrence Park..... you cannot deny the fact that they were low cost housing.... it is what it is. My dad was a barfly. He spent much of his time at Moores Tavern on Nazareth in the Village. Mom would call looking for him and then dispatch me into Montreal to extract him from the "demons of nickel draught".

The fact that my friend turned out to be a good and compassionate individual is a credit to him and him alone, he should be proud of his accomplishments.... I know I am.
