Canada still bleeding jobs

After squandering more than 50 billion dollars on their cronies and supporters the Harper Government finds themselves in need of more intellegent stimulus suggestions than Flaherty or Baird can muster. Even the super economist Stephen Harper is not capable of stopping the bleeding in the economy.

If the bleeding is to be stopped Harper has to change his buy American policies and revert to purchasing Canadian goods. We cannot afford the F-35 or the purchase of drones and armoured vehicles which are all American made and mean nothing to our economy but are simply a drain on it.

They have to do more for small business and provide incentive for would be entrepreneurs to start their own business. There are thousands of creative and hard working Canadians that would love to be the proprietor of a small business with the view of growing into an international company, they just can't raise the capital or need guidance.

Not all who go on UI want a handout, many have a dream of greatness but are not as lucky as I was when I started my business. I had a network of former clients who believed in me and supported my ideas. What I suggest is that the government, rather than close their pocket book to the unemployed, is to provide those who have a dream and a viable business plan with assistance, both financial and mentoring.

I am sure that at least 1 in 10 of those destined for UI are capable of running a business to some extent. Rather than put potential entrepreneurs on pogey they should give them a forgivable line of credit up to 50,000 dollars, that money would not be wasted but would go back into the economy in the form of purchases of equipment, office supplies and/or inventory. There will be some failures since most small businesses fail within the first three years but during that period they feed the economy.

Mentors could be contracted by the government from a pool of retired persons with business experience who could mentor up to ten businesses. The responsibilities of the mentor would be to assist the individual owner with contacts, accounting and promotion. They would be on a one year contract for which the government would pay them a nominal amout per hour plus travel expenses of say, 50 cents per kilometer. Again this money would go back into the economy in one form or another.

The extra money means the mentor could even afford to fly Air Canada, the official airline of Lisa Raitt, and help keep them afloat. Our 99 dollar seat sale to New Jersey just cost us nearly $700.00 return and they are crying poor.

The process should not follow the lines of robo calls but should be available to all Canadians regardless of how they voted. Rather than build sidewalks to nowhere or artificial lakes the government would be pro-active in job and business growth for the first time in Canadian history.

Hell, even the corner hot dog cart owner requires part time assistance.
