Patronage at its most egregious

1 in 4 Conservatives given patronage posts.....

Among the 'lucky winners' are four candidates who were appointed to the Senate, two to overseas diplomatic positions in France, 14 to agencies or boards and 14 became political staff to ministers and MPs.

YEAR OF HAPPINESS

The following is an email that I received from Heidemarie Vos who has been a regular contributor since the days of the Greenfield Park blog run by Marty. Heidi is one of those special ladies who is not only a world renowned author of cook books from South Africa but someone who is a loyal friend and an outspoken critic. That being said here is the latest email I have received from my friend.....

Before I get poorer than what I already am............LOL Well, am
sure you heard about starving artists and writers LMAO

Just a quick personal note, being my life is and has been so hectic
with research - "Diabetic Warrior - A Caregiver's View" is almost
finished. I am now in midst of writing chapter 11 on foods, herbs and
spices and their nutritional values. Chapter 12 will be recipes for
the nutritional program reversing Diabetes.

Have plenty of Doctor's and research documentation that it all boils
down to nutrition and ridding oneself of toxins through nutrition and
anti-inflammatory foods ( some documented as anti-cancer causing as
well). Basically one needs to alkalise one's system and the Doctor's
program I am advocating in this book does just that. I've actually hit
on the cure as taking insulin is just handling the symptoms not the
cause.

The solution of dealing with the symptoms of course leads to all the
physical problems that have been connected with this disease. As Dr.
Lindhar said, no disease can grow in an alkaline condition.
Unfortunately he passed on in the 1960's, but hey, he was way ahead of
his time and big Pharma was not interested in his work being it
wouldn't make them any money.

Well, am sure Alan would be proud of me, albeit too late for him. I
hope to help others with ridding themselves of this disease and
getting back to normal before it's too late for them. Well. one
thing's for sure, you'll find out all about the many ups and downs we
went through with his illness for 2 years for 2 years, from blindness
to many amputations, right up to his death by taking insulin and not
dealing with the cause.

I just knew I had to write this. One friend has already reversed her
diabetes and I am living proof that the program works, having been so
near death myself as my own doctor can verify.

As always, your friend with love, Heidi

Thanks Heidi.... your emails and writings are always appreciated .... best of luck on this much needed book .... Alan will understand and be proud that you have undertaken this endeavour to help others .... good luck

Comment on the blog

"is there collusion within the media and the Conservatives" If I recall correctly forty-three of forty-four national news outlets editorially endorsed the Conservatives during the last election. Collusion of that kind is understood to be a publisher's right. In the final analysis though it proves that they speak at us not for us. on Political Bottom Feeders and the Media Snakes

Thank you anonymous..... I agree it is a publishers right to endorse a specific party, for the same reason as I write my rants on the blog. Nobody else will speak for me, plus I do it for my own pleasure, if someone happens to read it great. If they disagree, that's OK too. However, there is no justification for a reporter OR a publisher to seek out private financial undertakings such as the Mulcair story... that is a far cry from an endorsement.... that is collusion

If his activities were onerous then, yes..... investigate it, write it and print it.

Canada's baby bump....

http://ca.news.yahoo.com/canadas-baby-bump-country-more-kids-more-moms-123909889.html

Yes folks Canada has experienced its greatest baby boom since the 50's. Makes one wonder when the Conservatives will attempt to put a stop to this practice. Think about it Canada, if we have more people born and brought up in Canada that means corporations that the Conservatives are indebted to won't be able to import slave labour.

Profit Profit Profit is all they care about......

‘Entitlement’ my ass, I paid cash for my Old Age Security!!!! Just because they borrowed the money, doesn't make my benefits some kind of charity or handout !! Gold plated MP pensions and Civil Service Government benefits, aka free healthcare, outrageous retirement packages, 67 paid holidays, 20 weeks paid vacation, unlimited paid sick days, now that's welfare, and they have the nerve to call me a 'greedy senior' and my retirement, an ‘entitlement’ !!!!!!.....scroll down................
What the HELL's wrong with us???

WAKE UP CANADA !!!!

Someone please tell me what the HELL's wrong with all the people that run this country!!!!!!

We're "broke" & can't help our own Seniors, Veterans, Orphans, Homeless etc.,???????????
But spent 1.2 billions of dollars for G-20 events
In the last months we have provided aid to Haiti , Chile , and Turkey . And now Khanistan , Pakistan ......home of bin Laden. Literally, BILLIONS of DOLLARS!!!

Our retired seniors living on a 'fixed income' receive no aid nor do they get any breaks while our government and religious organizations pour Hundreds of Billions of $$$$$$'s and Tons of Food to Foreign Countries!

They call Old Age Security and Healthcare an entitlement even though most of us have been paying for it all our working lives and now when it’s time for us to collect, the government is running out of money. Why did the government borrow from it in the first place?
We have hundreds of adoptable children who are shoved aside to make room for the adoption of foreign orphans.
CANADA: a country where we have homeless without shelter, children going to bed hungry, elderly going without 'needed' meds, lack of housing and clean water on Reserves, and mentally ill without treatment -etc., etc.

YET.....................
They have a 'Benefit' for the people of Haiti ships and planes lining up with food, water, tents, clothes, bedding, doctors, and medical supplies.
Imagine if the *GOVERNMENT* gave 'US' the same support they give to other countries.
Sad isn't it?

99% of people won't have the guts to forward this.
I'm one of the 1% -- I Just Did.

Thanks Lorrie .... there are many truths in this rant however there are some miss information statements..... the truth outweighs the mistakes so I have posted it....

HEALTH MESSAGE

As I was lying in bed pondering the problems of the world, I rapidly realized that I don't really give a rat's hiney. It's the tortoise life for me!
1. If walking is good for your health, the postman would be immortal.
2. A whale swims all day, only eats fish, drinks water, and is fat.
3. A rabbit runs and hops and only lives 8 months.
4. A tortoise doesn't run and does nothing, yet it lives for 450 years.
And you tell me to exercise?? I don't think so.
I'm retired. Go around me.

Political Bottom Feeders and the Media Snakes

This article smacks of the Conservative Propaganda machine in full swing.

Mulcair remortgages home x number of times

It is NOT your business or mine what Mulcair has done to achieve the level within the NDP that he has. I am not a supporter of his nor, will I vote for the NDP at any time in my life however, this whole story smacks of the Harper propaganda team in action.

It is an expensive proposition to get where Mulcair is today and I must say I admire his commitment to Canada but, more than that, I admire the support that his wife has given him. Can you imagine how upset and angry your wife would be if you continually remortgaged your home to pursue a career in an intangible like politics...... good on her.

This whole story sounds like the criminal activity by the media that is under investigation in Great Britain right now. Hate mongering at its best

Hmmm is there collusion within the media and the Conservatives????? Duhhhh

Are migrants paid less than Canadians?

Comment on the blog:

Is it true that guest workers can be paid 15% less than domestic workers? on Canada Intends to Punish Seasonal Workers

Answer:  Yes! ..... Why? Because they can usually get away with it.

Wage rates are usually negotiated in the temporary migrants home country and although Canada and its Provinces may have minimum wage standards it is very difficult to monitor when it comes to temporary workers.

The process of filing a complaint is very difficult and companies hiring migrants know this.

Below are two sites that provide information on the subject.

http://toronto.nooneisillegal.org/node/380

The British Columbia and Yukon Territory Building and Construction Trades Council is supporting 60 temporary foreign workers employed for the Canada Line (RAV) construction who were paid less than $5 per hour and were required to work 54-66 hours per week with no overtime pay. Golden Ears Bridge Project contractor, Bilfinger Berger, is seeking to bring 345 foreign workers, but their application is being opposed by Ironworkers and the B.C. Federation of Labour on the basis that there are “Canadian workers for the job.” Finally the B.C. Government and Services Employees Union (BCGEU) is fighting the firing of 70 employees at Windsor Manor in Kelowna, where management is replacing them with foreign workers.

http://www.iwh.on.ca/system/files/documents/iw-forum-2009/thompson_migrant_workers_in_canada_2009.pdf

While migrant workers have the same rights to seek union representation as Canadian workers, the barriers to exercising these rights are almost insurmountable. Migrant workers arrive for pre-determined periods of time, so their interest in seeking collective representation over the presumed opposition of employers is unlikely to be strong. The benefits of unionism in Canada are often the greatest over longer periods of time, when negotiated wage rates, protections against layoffs and the right to challenge dismissals become more valuable.

The Seed

A successful business man was growing old and knew it was time to choose a successor to take over the business.

Instead of choosing one of his Directors or his children, he decided to do something different. He called all the young executives in his company together.

He said, "It is time for me to step down and choose the next CEO. I have decided to choose one of you." The young executives were shocked, but the boss continued. "I am going to give each one of you a SEED today - one very special SEED. I want you to plant the seed, water it, and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from the seed I have given you. I will then judge the plants that you bring, and the one I choose will be the next CEO."

One man, named Jim, was there that day and he, like the others, received a seed. He went home and excitedly, told his wife the story. She helped him get a pot, soil and compost and he planted the seed.
Everyday, he would water it and watch to see if it had grown. After about three weeks, some of the other executives began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow.

Jim kept checking his seed, but nothing ever grew. Three weeks, four weeks, five weeks went by, still nothing.

By now, others were talking about their plants, but Jim didn't have a plant and he felt like a failure.

Six months went by -- still nothing in Jim's pot. He just knew he had killed his seed.

Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing. Jim didn't say anything to his colleagues, however, he just kept watering and fertilizing the soil. He so wanted the seed to grow.

A year finally went by and all the young executives of the company brought their plants to the CEO for inspection.

Jim told his wife that he wasn't going to take an empty pot. But she asked him to be honest about what happened. Jim felt sick to his stomach, it was going to be the most embarrassing moment of his life, but he knew his wife was right. He took his empty pot to the board room.

When Jim arrived, he was amazed at the variety of plants grown by the other executives. They were beautiful - in all shapes and sizes. Jim put his empty pot on the floor and many of his colleagues laughed, a few felt sorry for him!

When the CEO arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted his young executives.

Jim just tried to hide in the back. "My, what great plants, trees and flowers you have grown," said the CEO. "Today one of you will be appointed the next CEO!"

All of a sudden, the CEO spotted Jim at the back of the room with his empty pot. He ordered the Financial Director to bring him to the front. Jim was terrified. He thought, "The CEO knows I'm a failure! Maybe he will have me fired!"

When Jim got to the front, the CEO asked him what had happened to his seed. Jim told him the story.

The CEO asked everyone to sit down except Jim. He looked at Jim, and then announced to the young executives, "This is your next Chief Executive Officer! His name is Jim!"
Jim couldn't believe it. He couldn't even grow his seed.

"How could he be the new CEO?" the others asked.

Then the CEO said, "One year ago today, I gave everyone in this room a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me today. But I gave you all boiled seeds; they were dead - it was not possible for them to grow.

All of you, except Jim, have brought me trees and plants and flowers. When you found that the seed would not grow, you substituted another seed for the one I gave you. Jim was the only one with the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he is the one who will be the new Chief Executive Officer!"

* If you plant honesty, you will reap trust
* If you plant goodness, you will reap friends
* If you plant humility, you will reap greatness
* If you plant perseverance, you will reap contentment
* If you plant consideration, you will reap perspective
* If you plant hard work, you will reap success
* If you plant forgiveness, you will reap reconciliation

So, be careful what you plant now; it will determine what you will reap later.

Think about this for a minute.

If I happened to show up on your door step crying, would you care?
If I called you and asked you to pick me up because something happened, would you come?
If I had one day left to live my life, would you be part of that last day?
If I needed a shoulder to cry on, would you give me yours?

Save the Earth. it's the only planet with chocolate!

Grampa

An 8-year-old girl went to her grandfather,
who was working in the yard and asked him,
"Grampa, what is couple sex?"

The grandfather was surprised that she would ask
such a question, but decided that if she's old enough
to know to ask the question, then she's old enough
to get a straight answer.?? Steeling himself to leave
nothing out, he proceeded to tell her all about
human reproduction and the joys and
responsibilities of intercourse.

When he finished explaining, the little girl was
looking at him with her mouth hanging open,
eyes wide in amazement.

Seeing the look on her face, the grandfather
asked her, "Why did you ask this question, honey?"

The little girl replied, "Grandma says that

Canada Intends to Punish Seasonal Workers

Yes Dorothy, "There are Idiots In The House Of Commons"

Lets be honest now, we all know that there are some who abuse the Unemployment Insurance system, That's a given. But for a country to consider punishing its own citizens for doing seasonal work, especially work that few want to do, and that companies have difficulty in finding those willing employees, is outrageous.

The industries that will be affected by Minister Finley's proposals are agriculture, forestry, roofing, fisheries and tourism to name a few.

Like the oil or mining industry as well as manufacturing the key to success is having skilled workers. The seasonal industry is no different. These people are not lazy, most have no other option because of their environment or their status in life. To label them as leaches on the system is disgusting.

Few of you who look down on these people are capable or willing to do their work. During their peak season they pay into UI just like you do. What does Minister Finley expect the fishery or forestry worker to do in the off season? Find temporary work for 3 to 4 months. Where and what? Or what about the roofer? Take a clerical job, after all there are not many vocations out there that call for his/her skills.

Oh yes! And how many companies out there do you know are willing to hire someone they know will be leaving them as soon as the weather improves? Or hire the engineer at 70% of his former salary knowing that when the economy improves he/she is gone?

If those workers in the seasonal industry feel they are under threat of being cut off of the EI system they will have to find new ways to work around a dictatorial system, or the industry will have to bring in temporary workers from outside the country that Minister Kenney can declare persona non gratis and send packing.

This is a shingle crew from Mexico working in Canada because it is getting harder to find a crew here. They work seasonal then head home for the winter.

Regardless of where they are from they have to adhere to Canadian standards, abide by my specifications and if they don't I will make them tear the roof off and do it over. So they must be skilled, they must work safely and they must be quality conscious.

This is a flat roofing crew mopping in a 4 ply membrane with hot asphalt (note that it is nearing the end of the season). How would Minister Finley like to do this back breaking work for 10 to 12 hours a day during peak season? Only to be told she was being laid off and was not elligible for UI because she had abused the system.

This is a trained applicator applying a modified membrane to a concrete deck. Not only is he subject to criticism from me but the manufacturer also inspects his work and can reject it or refuse to provide a warranty until the work meets their requirements.

How would you like to have to pay to train new people every so often because the good applicators didn't want to work seasonal anymore as a result of being punished for collecting once too often?

Most of the flat roofing trade is unionized and must be current in Work Safety, CRCA standards, and Manufacturer standards, not just for one type of membrane but for 4 types, all requiring training.

The shingle trade while less complicated still has its requirements and standards that each applicator must be current in.

Father of many

A little boy got on the bus, sat next to a man reading a book, and noticed he had his collar on backwards. The little boy asked why he wore his collar that way.

The man, who was a priest, said, "I am a Father."

The little boy replied, "My Daddy doesn't wear his collar like that."

The priest looked up from his book and said, "I am the Father of many."

The boy said, "My Dad has four boys, four girls and two grandchildren and he doesn't wear his collar that way.

The priest, getting impatient, said "I am the Father of hundreds," and went back to reading his book.
The little boy sat quietly... but on leaving the bus, he leaned over and said, "Well maybe you should wear your pants backwards instead of your collar."

Women

A real woman is a man's best friend.

She will never stand him up and never let him down.

She will reassure him when he feels insecure and comfort him after a bad day.

She will inspire him to do things he never thought he could do;
to live without fear and forget regret.

She will enable him to express his deepest emotions and give in to his most intimate desires.

She will make sure he always feels as though he's the most handsome man in the room and will enable him to be the most confident,
sexy, seductive and invincible...

No wait a second....Sorry.

I'm thinking of whiskey. It's whiskey that does all that shit.

Woo Wooo

Two Indians and an Irishman were walking through the woods.
All of a sudden one of the Indians ran up a hill to the mouth of a small cave.

'Wooooo! Wooooo! Wooooo!' he called into the cave and listened closely until he heard an answering,
'Wooooo! Wooooo! Woooooo!

He then tore off his clothes and ran into the cave.

The Irishman was puzzled and asked the remaining Indian what it was all about,.
'Was the other Indian crazy or what?'

The Indian replied 'No, It is our custom during mating season when Indian
men see cave, they holler 'Wooooo! Wooooo! Wooooo!' into the opening.
If they get an answer back, it means there's a beautiful squaw in there waiting for us.

Just then they came upon another cave.
The second Indian ran up to the cave, stopped, and hollered, 'Wooooo! Wooooo! Wooooo!' Immediately, there was the answer.

'Wooooo! Wooooo! Wooooo!' from deep inside.

He also tore off his clothes and ran into the opening.

The Irishman wandered around in the woods alone for a while, and then spied a third large cave.
As he looked in amazement at the size of the huge opening, he was thinking,
'Hoo, man! Look at the size of this cave! It is bigger than those the Indians found.. There must be some really big, fine women in this cave!'

He stood in front of the opening and hollered with all his might
'Wooooo! Wooooo! Wooooo!' Like the others, he then heard an answering call, 'WOOOOOOOOO, WOOOOOOOOO WOOOOOOOOO!' With a gleam in his eye and a smile on his face, he raced into the cave, tearing off his clothes as he ran.

GOLF Love affair

Ed and Carolyn met while on a singles cruise and Ed fell head over heels for her.

When they discovered they lived in the same city only a few miles apart Ed was ecstatic. He immediately started asking her out when they got home.

Within a couple of weeks, Ed had taken Carolyn to dance clubs, restaurants, concerts, movies, and museums. Ed became convinced that Carolyn was indeed his soul mate and true love. Every date seemed better than the last.

On the one-month anniversary of their first dinner on the cruise ship, Ed took Carolyn to a fine restaurant. While having cocktails and waiting for their salad, Ed said, "I guess you can tell I'm very much in love with you. I'd like a little serious talk before our relationship continues to the next stage. So, before I get a box out of my jacket and ask you a life changing question, it's only fair to warn you, I'm a total golf nut. I play golf, I read about golf, I watch golf on TV. In short, I eat, sleep, and breathe golf. If that's going to be a problem for us, you'd better say so now!"

Carolyn took a deep breath and responded, "Ed that certainly won't be a problem. I love you as you are and I love golf too; but, since we're being totally honest with each other, you need to know that for the last five years I've been a hooker."

Ed said, "I bet it's because you're not keeping your wrists straight when you hit the ball.

Budget bill has 13,000 blogsites going dark...

from Yahoo News:

Last week, Dennis Drainville, the bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Quebec wrote a scathing piece about the bill and how the Stephen Harper government is minimizing the role of Parliament.
"In the last 12 months I have seen clearly the rise of tyrannical policies and the application of such mind and state control that the people of Canada , unless they soon react, will find themselves not only slaves to a corporate and political domination they never chose but they will experience the extinguishing of any of the hopes and dreams that they once had for a nation firmly based upon the foundations of compassion, justice and peace," he wrote.

"For God's sake, for all of our sakes, wake-up Canada."
